Music Therapy

Music Therapy involves making music, writing songs, drumming, learning to listen to music, etc. with the guidance of a trained therapist. People with cancer who use this form of therapy find that their perception of pain is reduced as well as fear, anxiety and nausea. Music therapy encourages self-expression, facilitates communication and engages one in relaxation. Attention and cognitive function are stimulated and functional motor movement is maintained. This is really a fun and effective healing modality. It is also worth noting that "research on group drumming music therapy conducted at the Mind-Body Wellness Center in Meadville, PA found that participants of group drumming had increased Natural Killer Cell activity. These cells are part of our natural defense mechanisms and our ability to fight off illness."
Research information was provided by Rehabilitative Rhythms.
